Natural products from dairy farmers in the Tyrolien region of Alpbachtal
Hay-milk: Finest milk for the finest cheese

The dairy Reith im Alpbachtal is located in the heart of the village. Every day, 65 farmers deliver fresh and natural hay-milk to the dairy.
During summer, addidtional milk from 10 alpine meadows, situated in the region of Alpbachtal is delivered. The production of Alpbachtaler Heumilchkäse (Alpbachtaler hay-milk cheese) is based on this hay-milk.
Hay-milk is the term used for milk which is obtained from cows that are fed green fodder as well as alpine plants and herbs in summer and hay in winter. Silage fodder is strictly prohibited. Many of our farmers have been awarded with the Austrian quality seal for milk which underlines the high quality of the milk.

Highest quality standards
The FSSC 22000 quality standard guarantees high quality of the products and food safety in the dairy.  Considerable know-how, manual skills and love for the products contribute to successful cheese processing. It goes without saying, that we work according to the highest hygienic guidelines and that we make use of the highst milk quality, provided by the farmers. Gentle refining, without any food additives, GM-free, a lot of time for the maturation process and quality control – these are the success-components for the perfect taste of the hay-milk cheese. Furthermore, the experience of our employees ensures best quality and a perfect taste.

Contribution to the environment
We care about the environment. With their daily work, the farmers maintain the unique tyrolian landscape. A short distance between farmers and dairy and little packaging material contribute to the preservation of this environmentally sensitive region.

History – from the idea to the taste

In 1945 the dairy Reith im Alpbachtal was founded, based on the idea of several farmers to collect their fresh milk and proceed it to delicious milk products. In 1949 and 1950 the dairy-building was erected in the center of Reith. In 1984 the dairy was modernised and a cheese vat was bought. Since 1999 the cheese matures under ideal conditions in a ripening cave and continuous improvements are made. Chairman Konrad Vorhofer, cheesemaker Hubert Rendl and 9 employees care for the extraordinary taste of every single piece of cheese.  

Milk, cheese and more delicacies
Apart from the Alpbachtaler cheese specialities, our dairy-shop provides further cheese specialities from our farmers and alpin meadows in the region, for example farm butter, whole milk, fresh bread and much more.
