Gutes aus Thüringen! The idea for the "Filinchen" crispy bread came from the baker and pastry-maker Oskar Kompa. In 1946, he founded a handicraft company, which produced "quite normal" bakery goods and pastries at the beginning, in the small town of Apolda in the State of Thüringen.
His speciality "Filinchen", the name of which is alleged to be a loving memory of the nickname of a girlfriend from his youth, has been available as something special, crisp and fresh and also unique in its recipe and its manufacturing process, since 1956.
It is not a crispbread and not a wafer, but a crispy bread baked in a waffle iron.
Under the company name of GUTENA, a German synonym for GUTE NAhrung (GOOD NUtrition), the company has been flourishing for more than 50 years. With its unique quality, "Filinchen" as a brand name has managed to cross regional borders and, in the meantime, also to be listed in consumer markets in the west of Germany.
In a symbiosis of traditional manufacturing process and modern technology, the crispy bread has been produced at the new company headquarters since 1998. By its standard items, Original, Vital, Diet, Ballast and Herb Filinchen, this speciality matches today's trend towards food keeping you vital and fit, not straining the body and satisfying small attacks of hunger in between times. With the development of the "Filinis" crispy bar in the sunflower seeds & sesame, cocoa & coconut and also apple flavours, the company has staked specifically on the young generation. The organic Filinchen Dinkel is new at the assortment. It is baked with 100 % spelt flour from controlled organic agriculture.
Every year, the range is supplemented by changing trend products orientated to requirements and the consumers, which are presented on the occasion of the ISM.
Naturally, production is done on a high standard of quality. Since 1995, the Gutena company has been certified to ISO 9002, since 2002 to EN ISO 9001 : 2000 and since June 2006 to the International Food Standard (IFS). All products are continuously awarded gold medals and certificates of the DLG and the CMA.
