The Cow Camp is an active holiday and a unique experience for anyone interested in nature and traditional farm life. The program of the Cow Camp contains milking by hand, feeding the animals, shearing the sheep and many other fascinating farm chores. In the beginning of each day at the camp, all the animals are fed and taken care of. The goats and the calves are taken to the pasture for the day time, the little lambs get milk from the baby bottles and the hen’s eggs are sought from the hen house. And much more. After the morning-routine the participants get to ride in a horse-drawn wagon, learn how to make cheese and hike in the forests, to name a few of the possible activities. In the evening the animals are cared for again and then it’s time to relax in the sauna or in one of the many nearby natural lakes.
The Cow Camp takes place on the ecological, old-fashioned farm in North Karelia, Finland, owned by the Piipponen family. The farm is specialized in preserving the diversity of the Finnish nature and also protecting the Finnish original farm breeds like sheep, goats, chickens, horses and cows. The farm isn't a large-scale commercial production - quite the opposite. For example, the milk is not sold to the dairy manufactures but directly to the customers in the neighboring village. The only job of the Piipponen’s farm animals is to clean up the nature reserves and preserve the extremely rare breed of the Eastern Finnish Cows. Therefore, the cows get to lead their peaceful and happy life in a way which is natural to their species.
Join us next year and fall in love with the friendly Finnish original breeds and the traditional farm life!
