Exhibitor profile

The idea, significance and potential of the Ems-Achse as an economic and transport artery grew gradually in the past. In 1996, the first fully-functioning freight service centre, the GVZ Emsland, was put into operation. Since then, the centre has been connecting rail, road and water in an exemplary fashion.

The Emsland Europort, with its stakeholders, the cities of Haren, Meppen and the district of Emsland, which opened its gates in 2007, further complements the hub and the region's need for a combined means of transportation as a vital link between the supply chains from east and west as well as north and south.

The completion of the A 31 motorway an incredible 13 years earlier than had been hoped for was yet another unique achievement thanks to the creativity, solidarity and perseverance of the "Ems-Achse" players.

The completion of the motorway serves as a key trigger for further projects. An example of this is the building of two bridges over the coastal channel, which is currently underway to enable passage over the Dortmund-Ems channel/coastal channel starting 2006 for three-layer container transports between the seaport of Emden and the freight service centre GVZ Emsland. The project was pre-funded by the district of Emsland.

Strong, innovative and open to unconventional solutions - this is what the region is about.
